Arts Based Therapy Centre

‘Uhuru’, which means freedom in Swahili is our Arts Based Therapy Centre. ABT is the evidence-based use of multi-art forms that encompasses music, drama, dance, play, fine arts, imagination and story-telling to accomplish individualised goals within a therapeutic relationship. The use of arts and healing forms the bedrock to therapy and learning. The sessions will be conducted by a team of ABT Practitioners certified by World Centre for Creative Learning Foundation (WCCLF), Pune.

Objectives of the program:

  • To create an interdisciplinary approach that integrates practical, artistic and conceptual elements.
  • To address areas of development that includes Speech, Sensory Integration, Motor Skills, Cognition and Social Dynamics.
  • Using arts forms as a tool, to address activities of daily living, functional academics and training children towards accredited examinations namely; Open Basic Education and National Institute of Open Schooling.
  • To create a as a platform for peer learning and socio-cognitive learning.
  • The growth is assessed by triangulation of the various assessments and evaluating tools developed through observational formats, Standardised tests and ABT tools, with focus on qualitative and quantitative aspects of learning and experiences of daily life.

Details of the program:

  • The full-day program (10am-5pm) is extended to a small group of 25 children and adults.
  • The sessions will be conducted from Monday to Friday with a mid-week stay-over at the centre.
  • The part-time program (10-12.30pm/2.30-5pm) will remain open for group of only 20 children/adult for both focussed ABT sessions and remedial help complementing the learning in schools.
  • Each child will have an Individualised Learning Program that will be prepared keeping in mind the therapeutic goal of the child.
  • Regular observations and feedback on the development of the child/adult will be shared.
  • In addition to regular sessions, several group events and celebrations, outdoor trips will be conducted.
  • There will be parent sessions once a month. These sessions are designed for all those working with the child to explore arts based learning forms together.
